WTG Secondary Steel load-out and installation

One of our senior Naval Architects has been deployed as Marine Warranty Surveyor on behalf of a third party to supervise the activities of WTG Secondary Steel load-out and installation in a 250+ MW Offshore Wind Farm in the German Baltic Sea.

For those new to the OWF industry, the role of Marine Warranty Surveyor is to review and approve high-risk marine operations, acting on behalf of the underwriters (insurance risk), the assured, the contractors and for self-insured clients.

The duties of the MWS scope include:

  • Independent reviewing of relevant design and engineering documents, of associated procedures for the operations, and of suitability of vessel and equipment
  • Overseeing, attending and approval of various phases of a project
  • Issuing Certificates of Approval for specific project operations

This specific job lasted about 3 weeks on board an installation vessel duly adapted for the requirement of this project, and the main activities included:

Load-out of secondary Steel items:

  • External anode cage bottom and top (ICCP Ring)
  • Boat landing
  • Flange access platform (Internal Platform)
  • External platform
Internal platform installation (between external platform and monopile)
Internal platform installation (between external platform and monopile)

Installation of Secondary Steel items:

  • External anode cage bottom and top (ICCP Ring) – installed on the monopile (MP) using a dedicated tool, Anode Cage Installation Aid (ACIA)
  • Boat Landing – installed on the monopile (MP) using a dedicated tool, the Boat landing Installation Aid (BIA)
  • External platform
  • Flange access platform / Internal Platform

At completion of installation, a final report has been prepared to include:

 

  • Certificates of Approval (CoA)
  • Attendance Checklists
  • Surveyor’s Log
  • Photographs Report
  • Site Documentation (certification, weather reports, Management of Change, NDT reports, Dynamic Positioning documents)
